The Five Facets
– The essential components of an Integrated approach -
Impact Zone Golf was designed to address what Bobby felt the key elements, or facets, to creating dynamic impact at golf’s moment of truth….. when the club face connects with the ball. Dynamic impact, which is the hallmark of most professional golfers, is the secret to creating distance and accuracy. While Dynamics are the cornerstone and the first facet of an integrated approach to golf performance, there are four other facets that are key. Engaging all Five Facets creates a holistic approach, which leads to the most enjoyment, improvement, and ultimately, the best results.
Dynamics
There are 5 fundamental elements, the building blocks, essential to the golf swing. These 5 dynamics, left flat wrist at impact (right flat wrist for those 10% of golfers who are left handed), 4 inch in front swing bottom/aiming point concept, loading the club on the backswing, lagging the club on the downswing, and a straight plane line through the impact zone, are the subject of The Impact Zone and the foundation of Impact Zone Golf instructional offerings.
Style
Conventional teaching philosophies are style-based, putting more emphasis on what your swing looks like rather than what is accomplished at impact. This explains why many of the best players in the game have swings that are not being promoted by golfing instructors because their style is considered un-orthodox. Bobby believes that style is important, and it is indeed one of the 5 key facets of optimizing dynamic impact – but only after you have mastering dynamics. And your best style is one that is best suited for your unique body build, strength, and flexibility, not necessarily the one of your favorite golfer.
Knowledge
Education is very important. Besides working on your swing and putting, there is much education to learn such as course strategy/management, the art of putting, USGA and local rules, what to look for in equipment and how to buy equipment, and for the fashion conscience, what looks and feels good on the course and in the clubhouse.
Fitness and Health
What creates some of the best athletes today? Power, strength, stamina, flexibility… just to name a few things. And let’s not forget, overall being in good health. Yes, you can be a decent golfer at almost any age and fitness level, but Impact Zone Golf proposes that you step it up to best develop and optimize the main piece of equipment you uniquely bring to the game – Your Body!
By teaming with some of the best experts in the industry, Impact Zone Golf provides access to a wealth of knowledge, services and products designed to maximize your level of fitness and health.
Mental
Maybe the most important aspect facet – You might have perfect dynamics, a beautiful swing, a strong and flexible body, but with the proper mental preparation and attitude, you’ll optimize your enjoyment as well as the results of your game. Included under the mental game are goal setting and finding the resources to get you there – from finding an instructor/coach, practice techniques and routines, and the psychological side of the game – mental focus.
Here’s a quote we love, from Michael Jordan, an athlete who understands the importance of the mental game…. “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
